76 players descended on Doolys Portland for the second Predator Tour event of the season. The field was a strong one and the list of players who didn't make the final 16 redraw was almost as impressive as those who did. It was a very long day and into the wee hours for the final. Two players had lost early matches in the main draw and both muscled their way through the B side back to the redraw and into the final.
In the end it was Ryan Bourgeois, a player who moved to NS from Newfoundland last year, who surprised everyone by charging through to a 9-6 victory over Clayton Dennis (Magoo). Bruce Lilly and Nok Mantolino rounded out the top four.
The highly anticipated 10-ball break contest at $745/ball saw Bruce Lilly get his ticket drawn but ANOTHER dry break (the last 12 attempts have only seen one ball made on the break two times!) had him settling for the 10% consolation prize, pushing the ever-expanding pot to over $800/ball for the next event in three weeks time in Port Hawkesbury.
Thank you to our title sponsor Predator for providing new sets of Arcos balls and Predator racks (we now have enough for 16 tables), as well as other new product that will be raffled or sold in the coming months to raise funds for our association. Many thanks to Jen Reid and the awesome staff at Doolys Portland - Melissa, Heather, Cassidy, Angie (thanks for staying late!) - you all made the day easy for us! Also to Brian McNamara and his live-streaming services, always a pleasure to have you!
