A large turnout was expected for the latest pool ranking event with the recently announced sponsorship by Predator and additional prize money being added. Anticipating as much, the organizers split the event into two venues with the main event at Doolys Kempt and a separate womens event at Dooly's Burnside.
The players didn't disappoint. The main draw saw 63 players duking it out in a double knockout format down to the final four on each side of the draw, after which was held a redraw of the last 8 players (A side players drawn into B side players). Robert Williams brought his best game and squeezed past John Kristof 5-4 to claim the top prize, with Johnny Newman and Christopher Bright settling for semi-final honours.
Additionally, there were prizes alloted for the lower-level Fargo rated players: Dale Kettley won the under-425 prize, Bob Miklos won the under-525 prize and Bob Massia won the under-575 prize.
The 19 player womens event was also hotly contested with Chris Oickle defeating Desiree Marshall 6-3 in the final. Leigh Ann Giles and Gilda Saunders finished third and fourth respectively.
Kyle Richard had his ticket drawn for the 10-ball break contest but a dry break meant a consolation prize only, keeping him from collecting any of the main pot which sat at $170/ball.
Paul Gunn was on hand to aid in those ticket sales and also those for a brand new Valhalla cue which was donated by Mike Weagle to raise money for the family of Serena Studley. Final sales tallied over $650. The cue was won by Garett Lane who donated it back again to be raffled off at a later date and raise even more funds for Serena's family. Truly a gift that keeps on giving!
Many thanks to Tracey Goodyear, Jen Reid, Amanda Jenkins and the rest of the staff at both Doolys locations for hosting our events and staying late til the final was done at Kempt Rd. These events are extremely well run and kudos to the CSNS executive - Kyle, Craig Teal, Tracey, Jen and Bruce Lilly - for organizing and running the tournaments. Also a huge thanks and shout out to Brian McNamara for live streaming the event. The sport is growing and we look forward to lots more big events in the future!
